Stealing the Show in Steel Magnolias: Melissa Gates

Melissa Gates is a theater enthusiast whose love for the theater has recently pushed her to obtain one of the leading roles in the upcoming production of Steel Magnolias, set to hit the stage on October 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2024. She hails from Fitchburg Massachusetts and graduated high school in 2000. Gates also enjoys her work as a paraprofessional in elementary education and spends her leisure time performing in her band, hiking, and attending local shows. Although she arrived at the Mount in the spring of 2024 to begin her academic journey, Gates has been a part of the Theatre at the Mount community since she was a girl. read more

“Beehive, The 60’s Musical” premiered on Oct. 10 at MWCC by the Theatre at the Mount. It was directed and choreographed by Trish Aponte. Throughout the entire musical, maybe ten sentences were spoken. Watching them dance around song after song with practically no breaks would make anybody’s feet hurt. Sitting in the front row, I could feel waves of energy rolling off the stage. The audience received a high energy performance, as well as a detailed timeline of the 60’s. read more

The “Theater at the Mount” Program at MWCC not only provides a platform for local people with all sorts of talents, but it also brings the community together to celebrate the art of theater. In many ways, the community theater has brought opportunity and entertainment to anyone who takes part in it, whether it be an actor or a person who just wants to see a show without paying for an expensive trip into the city.

“It truly is a gift to the community,” said theater director Gail Steele. She explained that, when putting on productions, they choose from a pool of loyal directors, sound technicians, choreographers, and so on, based on their specialties. read more

(Archive February 1, 2011) “Survivor” Winner Announced at TAM

Theatre at the Mount’s (TAM) January 22 production of Survivor, the Musical, named Rob Houle as “Sole Survivor.” Houle, from Westminster, competed against 19 other performers. Singing, dancing, acting, puzzles and trivia were all part of the competition.

Other members of the cast included Joyce Baldwin, Angie Beauvais, Chuck Berube, Ryann Brown, Ethan Caouette, Katrina Caouette, Kyle Carlson, Nicole Couture, Julian Fox, Francis Freel, Darlene Gaudet, Taylor Lawton, Debbie Moylan, Hillary Minicucci, David Prescott, Tim Recko, Tyler Simahk, Jeri Warren and Chelsea Young. read more

Theatre at the Mount is hosting the second annual High School Musical Theatre Awards (The TAMYS) recognizing exceptional accomplishments in the production and performance of musical theatre in area high schools. 

The TAMY Award program recognizes the work, creativity, and devotion that faculty and students pour into their high school theatrical productions. The TAMY’s will celebrate the entire art of musical theatre: casts and crews, directors and designers and the great musical theatre works that inspire such devotion.  read more

(Archive October 2007) Cuckoo’s Nest Opens This Month

Dale Wasserman’s 60’s classic, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest comes to life on the Theatre at the Mount stage for 5 performances beginning October 5.

Set in a mental ward in America in the 1950s, the drama features half a dozen patients suffering various degrees of mental illness, from the lobotomized near-vegetable Ruckly, played by March Schrader, to the hyper-active Cheswick, played by Chuck Grigaitis. Other residents include Martini (played by Anthony Santucci), an eager, bright-eyed Italian suffering from hallucinations; well-educated but nervous and effete Harding, played by Vic Kruczynski; stuttering Billy Bibbitt (played by Tim Culkeen), still psychologically under his mother’s control; Scanlon (played by Tony Minichiello), who is obsessed with constructing bombs; and, Chief Bromden (played by Joe DeStadio), a large, bull muscled, deaf/mute Indian with schizophrenia. read more
