Retiring MWCC Professors Leave Behind Legacies of Learning

As the spring semester comes to a close, the Mount is bidding farewell not only to the 527 students who are graduating (between December 2023 and May 2024), but also to several faculty who are departing for their well-deserved retirements. Among them are two professors from the English department and three from the Health Sciences department.

Paula Pitkiewicz has been a professor in the English department for 41 years. “I was a student at MWCC,” she explained. “So, in a way, you could say that I have grown up at the college.” read more

A Mentor and Friend to Many

Lorie Donahue, a retiring English Professor at Mount Wachusett Community College, has been teaching at MWCC since 1989. Although she got her master’s degree from Boston College, her educational journey actually began right here at the Mount.

One colleague, Professor Michelle Valois has worked alongside Donahue for 22 years. Valois mentioned that with her history of the school as both a student and a professor, Donahue “holds an abundance of institutional knowledge” that goes beyond her subject matter. “She has a lot to share with her students,” she said. read more

Martha Morris

History Professor and World Traveler

Martha Morris, an adjunct history professor at Mount Wachusett Community College and Berkshire Community College, is currently teaching three history courses across both institutions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Geography from the University of Washington and earned an MSc and an MPhil in Economic History from the London School of Economics (LSE). “LSE was my first choice for graduate school because I wanted to focus on the British industrial revolution and the earlier period of import substitution,” said Morris. read more

Meet MWCC’s New Chemistry Professor, John Sirois

Dr. John Sirois

Assistant Chemistry Professor, Dr. John Sirois, has just begun his first semester at Mount Wachusett Community College after moving back from Alaska, where he taught the past five years.

            Originally from Massachusetts, Sirois moved away from home after completing his master’s degree. From here, he continued his education at the University of Rhode Island (URI), where he obtained his Ph.D., and Oregon State University (OSU), where he completed his post-doctoral fellowship. read more
