Former MWCC student and current Mrs. Massachusetts-International 2012, Jennifer Salvatelli is using her success to raise awareness for ADHD, a disorder that currently affects 8% of the nation’s youth.

“Most of my charity work has revolved around children,” said Salvatelli. “However, most recently I have seen the struggles that my sister and her family go through with her son, who has been diagnosed with ADHD, and I see the problems they face with getting him the help and services he needs.” read more

Climate change is known to be one of the most important issues today. After years of industrialization, a growing population, and continuously burning fossil fuels, the earth has felt its effects. Fortunately, the state of Massachusetts and many of its residents have stepped up to do their part.

Heather Conn, the department Chair of Natural Science at Mount Wachusett Community College, shared that although she does not usually consider herself an activist, she believes that raising awareness about climate change, helping change others’ behaviors, and being mindful of the way we live our lives can go a long way toward slowing the effects of global warming . “We need to learn about modifying behaviors to slow it and live with it,” Conn explained. “It’s happening.” read more

Townsend voting protocols section off voters refusing masks

Townsend, Massachusetts’ voting protocol for 2020 states that, while they advise that all who wish to vote in person to wear masks when entering Memorial Hall, those who do not wear masks will be directed to a precinct where they will wait until all other voters have left.

Kathleen Spofford, Townsend Town Clerk states that the reason non mask wearers will not be removed from the voting precincts is because the town believes it would be a violation of citizen’s voting rights. Spofford also mentions that the town of Townsend is expecting a record low turnout for in person voting this election. read more

How one MWCC student is helping to find missing people

NamUs claims that over 600,000 people are reported missing a year in the US even though most are closed tens of thousands of people are never found. Police departments are overwhelmed as it is and to constantly be looking for missing persons is not always possible; especially in heavily populated areas with other problems that need the attention of the police. One may ask if there isn’t something concerned citizens could do? Well with the ever-growing reach of social media maybe there is something we can do.  read more

A ruling on Monday, October 21 has upheld the statewide vaping ban. Brown and many other vape shop owners across Massachusetts sued Governor Baker in Federal Court to lift the ban sooner.  

Many shop owners initially chose to stay open in the face of what is thought to be an unlawful declaration by Governor Baker. Kevin Brown, owner of Madvapes in Worcester, said he planned to stay open “until the jackboot thugs shut him down.” He added, “We know in the vaping world that it’s illegal THC cartridges that are causing this whole kerfuffle.”  read more
