(Archive November 2007) Fitness Center Fees Discussed in SGA Meeting

By Jackie Hope | Observer Reporter

During the Student Government Association (SGA) meeting on October 19, Steve Washkevich, Director of the Fitness & Wellness Center, discussed the recent raise in student fees.

Washkevich said the increase for students to $60 per semester was not implemented to benefit other members of the community who are not students. (Archive October 2007) Want to Work Out? Pay Up!

By Adam Nadeau | Observer Reporter

So it’s time for another school year, and like many students you might’ve put on a few pounds of pudge during the warm summer months. Personally, I enjoy letting out some stress in the fall by taking advantage of our school’s workout facility. It isn’t great, but hey, it’s right on campus.

Students returning this semester are still just learning that the Fitness and Wellness Center now charges $60 per semester to full-time students, quite the price increase from $0. read more

This came as a shock to many students who have voiced complaints about the change. The change came with short notice over the summer in the form of an email, letter or announced on signs put up around the Fitness Center entrance.

Steve Washkevich, Director of the Fitness and Wellness Center, stated that the implementing of fees to students was a way of being able to keep up with rising costs without having to raise membership fees for non-students. He also stated that with an annual rate of $320 for a non-student adult member of the community, the $60 fee per semester was still a significant discount. read more
