(Archive May 1, 2011) Last Chance for Job Shadowing

By Rebecca Gilbert | Observer Reporter

Job shadowing, or externship, is a service currently offered by Mount Wachusett Community College to First Year Seminar (FYE101) students, but may be for a limited time only. The grant that provides for this service will no longer be funded come the end of the month of June this year.

Job shadowing is an experiential learning opportunity. Students learn about a job by spending time observing a worker.

Job Shadow Coordinator, Elaine Murray, calls it “a way of gaining insight into a career.” She said, “It’s an opportunity to go into the private or public sector to observe first-hand, particular positions of interest to the student.”

Students who have taken or are currently enrolled in a First Year Seminar class can contact Elaine Murray in the Advising and Counseling Center to find out more information about job shadowing. Act now. These services are only available until the end of June, 2011.
