It’s that time of year again and the Student Govermnent Association at Mount Wachusett Community College will soon have some newly elected candidates. The elections will take place on Wednesday, February 15th and Thursday, February 16th at 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. The following students are running for a seat in your SGA. Be a part of the vote!

Joan Martin

Sophomore Representative

Joan Martin, is a sophomore studying in the Complementary Health Care program and a Concentration as a Yoga Instructor at the Mount and is running for Sophomore Representative.

“I have had a lot of experience in leadership, from instructing yoga to being a full-time leader at my local youth group. I also love the fact that in doing so, I am helping others, which is really the best part of it all,” said Martin, via email interview.

Martin wants to bring new ideas to SGA. Martin said, “Any ideas that pop into my head to make things better for all the students. When I get an idea, I go with it until it’s done.”

Andrea Gendron

At-Large

Andrea Gendron is 37 years old and is in her second year at MWCC. She is a double major, studying both Business Admin and Liberal Studies. Gendron is running for the At-Large Seat.

Gendron said via email interview, “Last year I began sitting in on SGA meetings and listening to what they had to say and their goals as well as the things they were doing for MWCC and its students. I was incredibly impressed with how well everyone worked together to make the Mount an even more student friendly environment. I would very much like to be a part of that effort”.

Gendron has a background in both the Visions program and the Leadership for Life program. “In each of these programs I have learned more about myself, and how to be a leader. I am looking for a chance to put what I have learned into practice,” Gendron said.

Gendron would also like to bring change to campus. She said, “For many students balancing school, work, and families at home, it is agony to be taking finals during the week of Christmas. I hope to bring to the SGA the possibility of starting the semester a week earlier to allow us to finish the fall semester the week before Christmas to lessen a great deal of the stress that students feel during that week.”

Grace Santos

Sophomore Representative

Grace A. Santos, 19, is a sophomore at the Mount studying in the Art program, and is also running for Sophomore Representative. Santos said, via email interview, she would “like to bring to SGA, more creative ideas, new perspectives, new activities, and help make a better place to communicate.”

Her background in leadership comes from playing soccer for over seven years. Her team won three times, getting both MVP and leadership awards.

“I learned a lot from it [ soccer] and I learned to be a leader and hear what others have to say and give my opinions on what I think it right,” said Santos.

At-Large

Ashley Williams, 17, is a sophomore studying Liberal Sciences at MWCC and is running for AtLarge Representative.
