(Archive November 2007) SGA Votes Club Monies

By Carolina Moreno | Observer Reporter

The Student Government Association (SGA) recently voted on the budget towards clubs at MWCC.

The Ways & Means Committee made a motion to set aside $8,185 for MWCC clubs and organizations including: Alana Club, $775; Alpha Beta Gamma, $800; Art, $800; Campus Crusade for Christ, $600; Computer Graphic Design, $800; Dental Hygience, $500; Early Childhood, $700; Human Services, $150; International Club, $500; Legal Studies, $760; Marc Club, $200; Marketing Club, $400; Phi Theta Kappa, $400; and Pride, $800. All members agreed on the motion.

Half the amount of money will be given to the clubs and organizations fall semester and the other half will be distributed next semester.

During their regular meeting, SGA members talked with Bryan Johnson, manager of the bookstore, who said, “We are the ones that look like the bad ones because we take your money.”

He said the instructors have little say in what books to choose and that he is aware of the high prices of textbooks. Professor Candace Shivers also said that faculty is aware of the high prices of books. Johnson said, “I work real hard to get used books on shelves to lower the cost.”

The bookstore has a new Bookstore Advisory Committee that will discuss such subjects as the improvements in prices and availability of books. Johnson said the first meeting will be held in November.

Twelve new members were elected to the SGA: Emmanuel Medero, Nicole Progin, Mark Thomas, Mary Allen, Samantha Chace, Timothy J. Coelho, Lori Forgues, Brad Swanson, Wilfred Cintron, Elizabeth L. Cox, Alysha White, and Eveliz Rivera.
