(Archive October 2007) And Now…A Word to All Students from the Academic Support Center

Have you ever been worried about a writing assignment, mystified by a math problem, or baffled by a biology concept?

If so, help is right around the corner. The Academic Support Center, located in Room 116, provides free tutoring in all subjects for MWCC students. The Academic Support Center is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There are writing tutors on staff that can help with all steps of the writing process, from brainstorming ideas to compiling a bibliography. Math tutors are also available during these hours to assist with all levels of math. These services are provided on a drop-in basis – no appointment is necessary.

If you need help with any other subject, tutors are available. However, unlike math and writing, you will need to make an appointment. Typically, you will be given one hour per week at a specified time to meet with your tutor. Tutoring is much more effective when it is started as early as possible in the semester. Don’t wait until you have gotten so far behind that it would be difficult, if not impossible, to catch up. Also, remember that tutoring is not just for students who are failing – it is for anyone who would like to improve their grade. The Academic Support Center offers many other services besides tutoring. There are computers that can be used in an Open Lab format for research or homework. Free printing is available on a limited basis.

The Center also provides quiet rooms for test taking (including extended time testing) for students with documented disabilities. Equipment loans and adaptive lab materials are also available for students who need them. Stop by and the staff will provide more information.
