Student Life Calendar: October

Student Photo IDs Scheduled by appointment ONLY. Please bring one of the following photo IDs: a motor vehicle license or permit, a military ID, passport or a state issued identification card. ID cost is $10. Returning students who already have an ID should stop by the MWCC library on the Gardner Campus or the front office on the Burbank, Devens or Leominster campus to have your ID validated for the fall semester at no charge.

CATS Programming Meeting (Campus Activities Team for Students) – 12:30 pm, Room W11. Come and join in on the fun of planning and running activities for MWCC students (i.e. Scary Karaoke, Fall Fest). For more information, contact the Student Life office at studentlife@mwcc.mass.edu 978-630-9148 or stop by the office located in the Student Center. Open to all MWCC students.

Intramural Activity – Open Gym – Try a class, take a swim, shoot some hoops, life some weights, etc. Wearing appropriate clothes and footwear try out the Fitness & Wellness Center at no cost from 5am-9pm. Anyone under the age of 18 needs a parental signature.

Intramural Activity – Basketball – Tuesdays, 3-4pm. Appropriate clothing and footwear are required. Players under the age of 18 need an adult signature to participate.

Student Government Association Meeting – 12:30 pm, Murphy Room. Come see them in action and consider running for a seat on the SGA. Meeting open to all.

Breast Cancer Awareness – 11:30am-1:30pm, Student Center. Come pick up information and giveaways and show your support.

Film: Boy Erased – 12:30pm, North Cafe. Boy Erased tells the story of Jared (Hedges), the son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town, who is outed to his parents (Kidman and Crowe) at age 19. Jared is faced with an ultimatum: attend a gay conversion therapy program – or be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends, and faith. Boy Erased is the true story of one young man’s struggle to find himself while being forced to question every aspect of his identity.

Sabor Latino – Music and Ethnic Food, 12:30 pm, South Café. Come enjoy a taste of Latino food and dance to ethnic music
Financial Literacy Fair – 11:30am-1:30pm, Commons Area. Check out the fair and learn more about your finances. Contact Gloria Correa at g_correa@mwcc.mass.edu

Monster Costume Parade– 12:30pm, South Café. Come dressed in a costume and take part in the costume parade.

Empty Place at the Table Exhibit, Commons Area, Stop by this display that commemorates the lives lost in Massachusetts over the past year as a result of domestic violence. The display was created by Battered Women’s Resources, Inc., and consists of a formal dining room table set up with 2 plates for each victim, one with a name and the other with a brief description of the murder.

Halloween Cutout Decorating Workshop – 11:30am, South Café We supply all the cutouts and supplies, you simply decorate and enter into the Halloween Cutout Contest at Scary Karaoke.

Film: Ice Warriors – 12:30pm, North Café. The training is tough as the U.S. sled hockey team prepares for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, in ICE WARRIORS. Sled hockey, called “murderball on blades,” is played as aggressively as able-bodied hockey – but these players battle with their sticks, sharp sled runners and the serrated ice picks used to propel their sleds. They fight it out at eye level with a fastmoving puck in this game of force, speed and strategy.

Halloween Stroll, 3pm-5pm, Commons Area – Join us for the first annual Halloween Stroll for children under age 14. Comes dressed in costume, trick or treat, and have fun. Free Face Painting 4pm-5pm. Student parents that bring their children can enter to win a $100 CASH Prize

Scary Karaoke, 5pm-8pm, South Café – Join your friends and fellow students in an evening of fun and prizes. Come dressed in costume to take part in the Costume Contest or just come for the food and fun. $100 cash door prize every hour!

Tea Time Speaker Series – 12pm-2pm, Multipurpose Room Alternative Education. Contact Sharmese Gunn at s_gunn@mwcc.mass.edu for details.

Pool Tournament Final Round – 12:30pm, Student Center. Come watch the final round of this month long tournament to win cash prizes. $50, $30, $20.

Mocktails & Fatal Vision, 12:30pm, South Café -Enjoy an alcohol free Pina Colada or Strawberry Daiquiri for a $1.00 donation that helps support the SGA Food Drive. Take a few minutes with Campus Police to see how alcohol impairs your judgement.

Drain the Vein Blood Drive, 9am-2pm, Multipurpose Room – Donate blood at the Red Cross sponsored blood drive.

Fall 2019 Leadership for Life program- a series of eight short presentations or service opportunities on topics that will help you feel more comfortable and be successful at MWCC. From the first one in September to the last one in December, Leadership for Life will help you. Upcoming workshops are being held: October 2, 16, 30, November 13, December 11.
