GARDNER – Mount Wachusett Community College Associate Dean of Students Greg Clement has been named the 2016 regional winner of the Doris Michiko Ching Excellence in Student Affairs Award by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) at the Region 1 conference, which encompasses the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec; and the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
The award honors a student affairs professional at the mid-level whose outstanding commitment to the profession includes development of programs that address the needs of students, creation of a campus environment that promotes student learning and development, and support of an active engagement in NASPA.
“Mount Wachusett Community College is very fortunate to have a leader like Greg Clement,” said MWCC President Daniel M. Asquino. “He puts students at the center of all that he does and creates outstanding leadership opportunities for all of our students.”
Asquino noted that Clement has implemented student programming that targets effective reasoning; self-understanding awareness; sense of civic responsibility; health and wellness; effective leadership; meaningful interpersonal relationships; and, understanding diversity. “These support our college’s teaching and learning, but also support the needs of our greater community,” said Asquino.
MWCC Director of Veterans Services Robert Mayer praised Clement for his leadership. “Gregory Clement is a remarkable individual, a capable leader and a passionate advocate for diversity, inclusion and tolerance,” said Mayer, who was one of several student affairs professionals who nominated Clement for the award.
