First blog, ever. So bear with me. Ultimately, in this blog, I’d like to tell you all about my experiences on shoots and things that are happening now in my photography life, but before I do that I should brief you on how I got to this point. So, the background to all of this good stuff goes a little something like this: this past summer I decided to pursue photography after being in school for elementary education for three years. I got my first camera, took some classes, yada yada yada, now I’m starting my own business. End scene.
So here we are, post wedding numero uno. First, I’d just like to say congratulations to the happy couple, Eric and Danielle Newman. I pray that your marriage will glorify God in its fullest and purest form! I really am genuinely happy for you two (and not just because I got to shoot your big day).
How did I book a wedding, you ask? Well, let me tell you. My pastor sent out an e-mail to the congregation the Sunday before that said something to the effect of “Eric and Danielle’s wedding is this Saturday and everyone is welcome. Hope to see you then!” I read the e-mail, thought to myself “Well, that’s nice”, closed my computer, and walked away. Not two minutes later, God gave me this super, wonderful, fantastic idea, so I ran back to my computer and wrote Jason back saying “I don’t know if Eric and Danielle have a photographer yet, but I would be more than willing to shoot it for free, please let me know either way”.
Then I waited.
And waited.
Checked my e-mail about five (thousand) times and waited some more.
Then, finally!! The e-mail of all e-mails! Jason replied saying that they would love for me to shoot their big day! I screamed I was so excited. My dad’s girlfriend was like “Waaaaaa, you crazy guuurrrll” (she doesn’t talk like that).
Anyways, all week I was super excited and really, really nervous. I mean, I was going to be capturing memories that they were going to keep forever. Talk about pressure, people! I was told by multiple photographers that I wouldn’t be able to sleep the night before because I’ll be so nervous. Thank God, I slept like a baby and on top of that I wasn’t even nervous that entire day.
Technical stuff: I wasn’t sure what to expect really, because I had never shot a wedding before, I didn’t know how cooperative everyone would be. I just knew what I had read in books and what I had heard from wedding veterans. The lighting was a tricky in both the ceremony space and reception (the reception was worse by a landslide, though. Just think: church basement with minimal natural like and dull overhead lightage. No bueno).
Overall, I was really pleased with the majority of the shots that I got. Everyone was so gracious and thankful for me being able to capture Danielle and Eric’s big day. Looking back, I don’t think I could have gotten any more blessed when it comes to shooting a first wedding. I’m glad it’s over, though, and we can only go up from here. Praise the Lord!
