James “Kevin” Finch wears many hats, which now includes being the President of the Alpha Beta Gamma Honors Society at MWCC. Finch’s goal for the 2011/2012 scholastic year is to guide the club’s community service and fundraising efforts while focusing their main attention on this year’s two elected charitable organizations, the House of Peace & Education in Gardner and National Education for Assistance Dog Services (NEADS) in Princeton.
“We are a community service oriented group. Our membership is full of Go-Getters!” Finch said.
On Wednesday, October 26, the ABG club kicked off their efforts with HOPE by running a pumpkin drawing event for two groups of youngsters. HOPE offers after school opportunities for elementary school students in need. After the youths used markers to decorate the donated softball-sized pumpkins, they took them home. ABG also provided snacks of apple cider and popcorn balls.
In November, ABG will host a free period event where service dogs trained at NEADS and their masters will give demonstrations on what the dogs are capable of doing to help out their owners. The event will be open to students, faculty, administration and the general public.
Finch also currently serves as the Veteran’s Club Secretary and works for the Veteran’s Success Center at the college. He graduated from MWCC in May with an Automotive Technology Degree and is now finishing a few courses before moving forward into the 3 Plus 1 program at Franklin University where he plans to acquire his bachelor’s degree.
