As the upcoming school year approaches, students attended a physical therapy informational session at MWCC on Tuesday, July 26, in order to learn about the prerequisites and application process for the program. Aaron Spencer, assistant director of admissions, held the session.
The program requires a prospective applicant to complete MAT126, ENG101, PSY105, BIO203, and a business elective before applying for the two year program. While taking these classes, students must maintain a C+ or higher in every class. “If a student does not maintain the C+, he or she will have a rather difficult time being accepted,” Spencer said at the informational meeting.
Along with the prerequisites, prospective applicants must complete a general application and a program of studies application. Applications are judged by a point system in which applicants gain points in regards to various aspects of their previous studies. Spencer said this is the fairest
way to choose applicants since space is limited.
If a student maintains a higher grade in a class, he or she will receive more points. Similarly, applicants can receive points for receiving a relevant degree before applying for the program. Likewise, if an applicant has taken classes and received credits, the credits will add points to the applicant’s total amount of points.
MWCC accepts about 30 applicants for this program per year and the program is rather demanding. Since the workload can prove to be overwhelming, Spencer suggests that prospective applicants talk to academic counselors regarding scheduling and their course loads in order to be successful during the upcoming year.
