Hypnotist Visits MWCC
By Joslyn Thiem | Observer Contributor
The Mount recently had nineteen students fulfill their dream of being hypnotized. Steve Taubman, magician and hypnotist shared his talents with the Mount once again this year. From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Taubman walked around the South Café and shared his magic tricks at each table. Between 11:30 and 12:40, Taubman put on a hypnosis show that got the whole cafeteria’s attention.
Nineteen volunteers were hypnotized. Taubman went through different steps, starting off with the volunteers standing in a line swaying to making them answer shoes as if they were telephones ringing.
Taubman had the hypnotized students believe they were experiencing the hottest day ever. When he did this, they all began waving their arms like fans; some even started to take their layers off. He then made them believe they were freezing, which made them put their clothes back on.
Some of Taubman’s magic tricks included the invisible coin trick and a card trick. The invisible coin trick really makes one wonder because throughout the trick Taubman showed that his sleeves were rolled up and nothing was under his watch. The coin got larger throughout the trick and went from one hand to the other without being placed there. The card trick was similar to most card tricks. Taubman told an audience member to name a card in the deck and somehow he found it and made it appear.
