During the Student Government Association (SGA) meeting on October 19, Steve Washkevich, Director of the Fitness & Wellness Center, discussed the recent raise in student fees.
Washkevich said the increase for students to $60 per semester was not implemented to benefit other members of the community who are not students. Washkevich said it occurred because “We run as a business over there, and we need to make enough money to keep it going.” He said the increase in fees was not to punish students but to produce funds to improve the facility for members and keep the fitness center going strong.
Also, Washkevich said Paula Richards has been offering a free intramurals program during community time from 11:40 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesdays. All students are welcome.
In other business, the SGA will be conducting a food drive on Saturday, October 27 and they need volunteers. The SGA agreed to take $500 from contingency to fund gift certificates for thanksgiving dinner donations to students in need and also to donate to the food pantry.
