William (Bill) Belko is currently enrolled in his second semester here at MWCC. He is taking his core courses just like any other student enrolled at the school. However, Belko is a dual-enrollment student. As a Dual-Enrollment student you take college courses full-time or part-time at any local school of your choosing while you are still in high school. Belko is in what would be his junior year in high school; instead he’s getting college credits to be one full step ahead of the gang.

Some students would question Belko’s decision; they wonder why Bill would choose to skip out on all the joys of his junior and senior years. According to Belko, the choice was an easy one, “…it was mostly interpersonal disputes with other students that kind of pushed me along.”

The second reason was nicely thought through. “The other main reason was that I know that I would have to go to college eventually and I was probably going to go to the Mount to save money anyway, so I may as well get it done early,” said Belko.

There you have it. Bill Belko is taking charge; this quirky and bright student will get his associates by the time he gets his high school diploma and he will always be one step ahead of the gang.
