Inspiring people to save lives, Spay Day is a campaign held each year by the Humane Society of the United States promoting the spaying or neutering of pets and feral cats.
Volunteers from Ahimsa Haven, a nonprofit animal rescue group, held their annual Spay Day raffle, fundraiser, and bake sale at Mount Wachusett Community College on Tuesday, February 22nd. The group raised money for their program and provided information on low cost veterinary services.
“We’re raising money for our rescue,” noted Kathy Blouin, an aide at the event, “it’s basically to provide for the care of the animals.” Ahimsa Haven is currently raising money to build a shelter in Winchendon, Massachusetts and to provide medical care for the animals in their program.
“Spay Day, to me is very important,” declared Ahimsa Haven’s Adoption Coordinator, Nancy Regan, “Millions of animals are euthanized each year. Healthy animals, kittens, puppies… Many people cannot afford to get their animals spayed and neutered so we, along with many other groups, offer low-cost spay and neutering.”
